Valparaiso Men's Chorus

The Valparaiso Men's Chorus is the world's first fusion of nineteenth century maritime music and the New Orleans second line tradition--the gnarly residue of Alex McMurray's six month stint performing sea shanties at the Tokyo DisneySea theme park.

Generally consisting of eight instrumentalists and more than twenty singers, the VMC renders musty maritime favorites with extreme gusto, with tuba and trombone sharing the sonic space with fiddle and penny whistle. Their performances at the Saturn Bar are near apocalyptic events, with the performance space morphing into the swaying hold of a sailing ship.

They have released two CDs: 2012's The Straits of Saint Claude and 2007's Guano and Nitrates.
